How to Configure the CD-R King LP-8186 with Smart Bro and Globe

I had the opportunity to use both Smart Bro and Globe broadband internet with my CD-R King LP-8186 router.  I had decided to document the configuration steps for both.  For the most part, the steps indicated herein apply to both Smart Bro and Globe except otherwise mentioned in some areas.  I had included the screenshots that would really matter and excluded the configuration that I left to their default values or settings.

1Operation Mode

2Wireless Basic Settings

3Wireless Advanced Settings

4Wireless Security Setup

5LAN Interface Setup-Smart

Here’s the LAN Interface Setup that applies to Globe.  Please note that DHCP has been disabled because the modem that came with my Globe broadband subscription has DHCP enabled thus the need to disable the DHCP server of the LP-8186 router.  Also, the default gateway of 192.168.1.1 is the IP address of my Globe broadband modem which is a Prolink Hurricane 5200 modem.

5LAN Interface Setup-Globe

The last part to be configured is the WAN setup.  This screenshot applies to both Smart and Globe.

6WAN Interface Setup

Lastly, if you are using Smart Bro, the RJ45 connector from the Smart Bro canopy antenna must be connected to the WAN port of the CD-R King LP-8186 rounter.

If you are using Globe, the Prolink Hurricane 5200 modem must be connected to one of your LAN ports (not to the WAN port) of the CD-R King LP-8186 router.  With Globe, the CD-R King LP-8186 acts only as an access point and all computers connecting through it are actually using bridge networking.

palitan nyo lang po ng ip address yung router from 192.168.1.254 to 192.168.10.254 & DHCP client range to 192.168.10.100 – 192.168.10.200 from TCP/IP settings & LAN Interface.
that’s it your cd-r king router is now in router mode, not bridge..

    • Roel said,

That will work too and thanks for contributing. I would like to clarify though to avoid confusion that what networkmaster says is applicable to the Globe setup (not to Smart Bro). So instead of disabling the DHCP server on the LP-8186 if you are configuring for Globe, it is OK to leave it enabled which is the default setting and follow the suggested IP addresses that networkmaster says and lastly, plug the RJ45 connector coming from the Prolink H5200 modem to the WAN port of the LP-8186 router. Personally though, I still prefer the bridge mode over the router mode on the LP-8186 plainly due to practical reasons — the Prolink H5200 modem is already acting as a DHCP server so why configure another DHCP server. To me it is just unnecessary duplication of function.

Hello po! Pasensya na po kaso, d ko maintindihan kung paano gagawin.. pwde po bang makahingi ng instruction in the nearest layman’s terms? i would like to use the wifi sa aking laptop using CD-R King’s wireless broadband router. SmartBro po ang internet provider namin. thanks po!

    • Roel said,

      July 5, 2009 at 11:38 pm

I hope I can make the instruction in layman’s terms. Most reference materials of wi-fi routers I’ve seen are seldom written in layman’s language. There has to be some amount of knowledge assumed on the part of the buyer of the wi-fi router in order to successfully configure it. Unfortunately, most wi-fi routers I’ve seen are guilty on this. The screen by screen steps I’ve shown would have been helpful to some but would otherwise be still not enough to a lay person. Having said that, what I suggest is save a bunch of frustration and consult your nearest internet cafe which could provide on-site assistance to you. Show them the screen shots of my suggested configuration and let them implement it. Good Luck!

    • Roel said,

      July 13, 2009 at 9:56 pm

If you are configuring your LP-8186 router with Globe broadband, it is important to connect the Prolink 5200 to one of your LP-8186 router’s LAN ports (not on your WAN port as you might have been accustomed to in your PLDT configuration). Omitting this important part is one of the often mistakes in configuring for Globe, so just make sure that this is done as suggested in addition to the configuration as shown in my screen shots. You may ignore the CD installer that came with the LP-8186 because all it does is just basic pre-sets, which are already covered in my suggested settings.

Thanks Roel. Sa wan port ko nga nailagay yung globe Prolink 5200 kaya cguro ayaw. pero when i left our house. sabi ng kuya ko after 2 hours gumana na daw yung dalawang desktop PC namin pero still yun prolink ay nakakabit sa wan port. tapos yung dalawang desktop pc ay nakakabit sa Lan1 at Lan2 making Lan 3 at Lan 4 vacant. I’m not sure sa wifi kung gumagana na sya. I still not have not yet tested it since I’m not still able to go home. If I transfer the prolink from the wan port to the lan port so it means I cannot connect 4 desktop PC using wired ports? what are the disadvantages of the connections since it is still connected to the wan port? Thank you Very Much. How about the Smart Bro Prepaid Broadband Kit. Is there anyway to share it?

    • Roel said,

      July 18, 2009 at 10:17 pm

I’m not familiar how sharing works for the USB-based Smart Bro Prepaid Broadband. This post covers the canopy-based Smart Bro Broadband only as well as Globe. If you need all 4 LAN ports for client PC’s then you might want to try networkmaster’s suggestion (i.e. the first comment on this post) to use router mode, which allows you to plug the Prolink H5200 to your WAN port thus freeing up one LAN port for your client PC’s. On bridge mode (which is my suggested configuration for Globe), only 3 client PC’s can be connected on the LAN port. Dedicating one LAN port to your LP-8186 on bridge mode can be viewed as the down side, but you can expand the number of wired connections (from your current 3 (if you are using bridge mode) or 4 wired connections (if you are using router mode) by using an ethernet switch. You plug the ethernet switch’s uplink port to one of your LP-8186’s LAN ports, then all your client PCs connect to the ethernet switch.

sir ask ko lang kung pano ireset yung router na LP-8186. thanks.

    • Roel said,

      July 29, 2009 at 10:00 am

To reset the router, turn off the router (pull the power out of the unit), then press and hold the reset button on the rear panel with a pin and while holding down the reset button turn on the router (plug the power back into the unit). It is important that you continue to hold down the reset button for approximately 20 seconds before releasing it.

  11. Allen said,

additional question sir, san po ba dapat naka plug yung ethernet sa wan port or sa lan port? thanks.

    • Roel said,

      July 29, 2009 at 10:03 am

If your broadband provider is Smart, then the RJ45 connector coming from your canopy is connected to the WAN port. If your broadband provider is Globe and you followed my suggested settings, the RJ45 connector coming from your Prolink H5200 modem should be connected to the LAN port. The RJ45 connector coming from your PC should be connected to the LAN port regardless of your broadband provider.

If the router is asking for a password and you have lost it, you might want to reset it back to its default manufacturer settings to remove the password and restart the configuration all over again. To reset the router, turn off the router (pull the power out of the unit), then press and hold the reset button on the rear panel with a pin and while holding down the reset button turn on the router (plug the power back into the unit). It is important that you continue to hold down the reset button for approximately 20 seconds before releasing it. After the password is removed, accessing 192.168.1.254 should now be accessible without a password.

Unfortunately, I do not have the answer at this point. When a guest brought her laptop with her to my home, her laptop could not connect to my home network either. I could not figure out what’s preventing her laptop to connect to my home network while every wireless device in my home had no issues connecting so I just surmised that maybe it was all due to wireless device incompatibility. It could be the same thing in your case, though I have no way to ascertain this.

thank you so much! please do not delete this post in your blog – ever! as we are all bookmarking this. from the instructions given above + a little playing around the configurations, I was able to use my router to another 4g service..wi-___ & wi-_____ , anonymous muna for now as I do not know if this is in accordance to their T&Cs. Anyway, I hope the screen shots above are clearer. Thanks for helping all of us understand chinese technology in the form of cdr-king’s lp-8186 router..

I followed this guide and it worked! Thanks!

Btw Sir, I have two PCs connected to the lp8186 (wired connection). The problem is the second PC experiences a very slow net connection compared to the first PC. I don’t think it’s the PC’s problem because I tried to connect each PC directly to the internet and their speeds are just normal. I also tried shutting down the first PC but there’s no change in the second PC’s speed. Any idea? (My ISP is Smartbro)

basically di ninyo alam kong ano ang gamit ng router … heheh pag static ip ang services provider ninyo configure ninyo lang ng manually all info sa WAN IP, subnet, gateway, DHCP AND DNS taps lagay kau range ip para inyong sariling network…. then apply .. if dynamic ang provider you must also setup your WAN to Auto kasi if lagi na change ng ip ang services provides tol lagi kau mawawalang ng connection….. or just simple put it in dymamics that well the easy way all types of WAN from provider well sopport it .. hehehheh…..

good day sir, i had configured my LP-8186 thanks to your effort. laptops connect easily. but my windows mobile phone and ipod seems to have a very low internet connection. do you any idea whats causing this problem?

    • Roel said,

      June 11, 2010 at 10:12 am

Unfortunately, I don’t know why your Windows mobile and ipod are not able to connect to the LP-8186. But you are not alone, my Blackberry 8320 phone is not able to connect either. After spending too much time trying to make it work I gave up and stopped wasting my time further trying to make my Blackberry work with the LP-8186.

Hi sir, I’m using Smart Bro with the LP-8186, yesterday biglang di maka connect yung mga PC’s and Mac sa bahay, LAN and WAN. pero ok naman kung direct to PC yung modem. everytime na i connect ko yung smart modem sa LP-8186, nag redirect sa smart Bro portal at may error na B3003.

I tried editing the settings of the router, but after I applied the changes, I cannot get inside the router settings anymore.

    Please help

hi network master I really need help.

I have a PLDT my DSL internet and im having problems with my settings

Iam currently on Gateway settings and I have enabled WEP as my security. The problem I’am encountering is the constant (Lag) continues disconnection and reconnects for about 5 to 10 seconds. which is very bothersome. especially when downloading and playing games. sometimes it just disconnects.. I dont know if my router is malfunctioning or the adsl modem

Im like this in a painful 8-10 months I guess. any help will be very appreciated. thank you and more power!

If you are using Globe, modem must be connected to one of your LAN ports (not to the WAN port) of the CD-R King LP-8186 router. With Globe, the CD-R King LP-8186 acts only as an access point and all computers connecting through it are actually using bridge networking.
    Now its working!!!
    thank a lot!!!

This very helpful article is like a needle in the “webstack”. You won’t know it’s importance until you came in such a NEED to setup your CDRK LP-8186 router badly.

Either SMART (canopy) or GLOBE (wimax). This works for both!!! Tested and guaranteed 100% working setup!

Keep up the kindness of sharing knowledge! Thanks!
